Marc Jacobs for Gay pride

This t-shirt, entitled "Rebel Pride", has just been added by Marc Jacobs in honor of Gay Pride Week. Designed by Jon Lynch, the t-shirt features the Confederate flag overlapped by the Gay Pride rainbow. Marc Jacobs is one of my favorite designers and I think its great that he's featuring a shirt that displays Gay Pride, I don't necessarily think it was appropriate to use the Confederate Flag. Sure, its a mixture of contradictory symbols but the Confederate Flag is also an offensive symbol, linked to years of oppression and hatred. To me, it symbolizes the United States' dark past, and that is not something I think should be linked with Gay Pride Week, which is about celebrating the freedom to be gay and knocking down stereotypes. I get where Marc's tongue-in-cheek reference is coming from, but I don't think it works! I still think Marc is fabulous, I just don't think this shirt is! What do you guys think?

People have been telling me for years now – ‘Casey’s cooler than you,’ ‘Casey’s a better actor than you! I’ve always known about the acting thing – I mean come on, I peaked in Good Will Hunting – but I would just laugh in people’s faces when they said he was cooler. He’s so scrawny, and kinda funny looking. But the more I see these movies, the more I realize… He’s sneaky cool!”- Ben Affleck

I'm personally a HUGE fan of both Ben and Casey, and I highly recommend watching "Gone Baby Gone." It's Ben's stunning directorial debut with Casey in the lead.

David Beckham Earns Even More Money.

This is David Beckham's new commercial endorsing Sharpie Markers. I think the commercial is cute and funny, although in my opinion the woman in the commercial is way too calm. If I met him, I would be freaking out! What do you guys think of it?

My Wardrobe Sale!

One of my favorite websites, My Wardrobe, is having a massive summer sale where you can get amazing clothes and accessories from anywhere between 30-80% off! I highly recommend that you check the site out- its very easy to use and you can search by designer, discount, item, or trend! I have posted some of my favorite items on sale below.

Black Platform Shoes by Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti: I love how versatile these shoes are! You can pair them with jeans during the day, but they'd also look perfect with a dress for going out at night. I also love how the suede has been paired with the blank patent leather, and the platform heel means that they will be comfortable.

Before I Met You Top by Sass and Bide: I love how Sass and Bide managed to turn the once monotonous plain grey tank into something stylish by simply adding black velvet straps. This tank, paired with leggings or skinny jeans, would make a really cut outfit. I also love that it has a racer back.

Fitted Jacket by Purple Ash: I absolutely ADORE blazers because they can dress up a simple t-shirt and jeans outfit. I love the color and fit of this one. I think every girl should have classic pieces such as this blazer due to its versatility.

Mustard Bow Detail Dress by Erotokritos: I have recently discovered a penchant for the color yellow, and this mustard dress is a must-have for the fall. Paired with leggings and the platform heels pictured at the top creates the perfect "London" outfit.

Laurien Dress by Malene Birger: Another really cute dress that can be worn either during the day or for a night out. I love the simple details at the top.

I hope you enjoyed my picks! Check out My Wardrobe for even more amazing clothes.

Hey, Its Okay...

Glamour Magazine always has a section called "Hey It's Okay" in every issue. This section features statements directed towards girls to let them know that its okay not to be perfect, to have those little quirks that make us who we are. In a society that is obsessed with unattainable perfection, I think these little anecdotes remind us that we're all human- and that we don't have to feel guilty every time we do something that may be a little selfish! I've compiled some of these statements from various issues and thought it would be fun to post them here. If this works out, I may post them every month. If you have any that you would like to add, please comment with them and I will add them to the next post!

Hey, It's okay...

  • ..to flip right to the end of a book you aren't loving. No one's going to test you on it.

  • ..to get seriously annoyed when he stops calling- even if you never liked him in the first place.

  • .. if you don't leave the house all day, just because its raining.

  • ..to mentally count the piece of lettuce in your sandwich as one of your five-a-day.

  • ..to glance at pictures of yourself when you were 16 and think "Ha! So much better now!"

  • .. to buy new underwear in order to avoid laundry.

  • .. to make faces at people on the other end of the telephone. It may be childish, but oh so satisfying.

  • .. to run out of toothpaste, but own eight different shades of the same color of nail polish, "just in case."

  • .. to buy more than one pair of shoes for that perfect outfit!

  • ..if you think your friend's baby looks kind of funny. (As long as you don't tell her!)

    Musical Recommendation

Alphabeat is a new band from Denmark who's singles "Fascination" and "10,000 Nights of Thunder" (featured above) have blown up on the European charts. I highly recommend them, they're perfect for the summer because they're fun and upbeat. They're reminiscent of 80's pop, and who doesn't love that? Check them out and let me know what you think!

    Viva La Vida

“As soon as Barack Obama becomes president, people will be a bit more optimistic. If Obama was to be president, it would immediately change the whole outside world’s opinion of America overnight. America’s public image at the moment is really bad. And it’s a bummer, because over half of Americans are the coolest people on the planet. But they’ve been so misrepresented… But I think that, really, the fair thing would be, in electing the American president, to let everyone in the world vote, because it affects all of us. If there was a world vote, there’s no question who would win. No question. Of course, Barack Obama is human like the rest of us. He’s going to f— up. But I’m just trying to look on the bright side. What’s the point of being negative? Where does that get us? It gets you your own radio chat show, but it doesn’t really do anything for the world.”- Chris Martin

What do you guys think of the new Coldplay album? I'm obsessed!

Let's See How Long This Lasts

    • Euro 2008: I am an England supporter, and since they failed to qualify for Euro 2008, I figured I'd be impartial and bored by the tournament. However, the recent turn of events, such as Holland beating the World Champs, Italy, as well as Turkey throwing Switzerland out of the tournament has made me reconsider! I definitely recommend tuning in, because more surprises can only be in store. And if not, there is plenty of eye candy!

    • Ringside: Balthazar Getty's (of Brothers & Sisters) band are actually pretty damn good. Their song Tired of Being Sorry was actually covered by Enrique Iglesias! Their video for the latter was directed by the ever talented Joaquin Phoenix and features cameos from Christian Slater, Dermot Mulroney, and Casey Affleck! Unlike other bands featuring actors, Ringside doesn't attempt to be something that their not- they just have fun with the music. With catchy melodies and great lyrics, I'm surprised they haven't made it big yet.

    • Killer Heels: After the Sex and the City movie, who isn't trying to emulate Carrie's style in one way or another? I fell in love with her Dior Gladiator-style heels that can be seen here. Unfortunately, I cannot afford something like that but Baker's has made a fabulous replica that can be purchased for $69.95! These shoes will be my early birthday present to myself.

    • Robert Downey, Jr: So I am late to jump on this bandwagon, but since watching Iron Man and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, I have come to appreciate his sarcastic sense of humor and overall acting ability. Not to mention that he's hot! I can't wait for Tropic Thunder- the RDJ/Stiller/Black combo cannot disappoint!
